Local SmartForms

Local SmartFormA key part of the Red Tape Blueprints program, the Local SmartForms initiative has developed a shared suite of interactive PDF forms developed specifically for Councils and their customers.

Instigated to address a growing demand from Councils to collaborate on common online form development, this initiative heralds a new approach to Council interactions. Small business operators in NSW now have online access to a range of consistent Council forms relevant to their business needs.

Based on the Adobe LiveCycle product, SmartForms are Adobe PDF forms that are customisable for Councils; interactive and easy to complete online by customers.

The development of Local SmartForms has been especially noteworthy. Through a collaborative process, Councils identified a group of forms that could be improved, and which also had the potential to be shared by all Councils in the consortium, and beyond.

A comprehensive analysis and development process resulted in 42 existing forms in each Council refined to just 17 shared forms - an exceptional outcome which will deliver significant efficiency improvements for both customers and Councils.

The initiative also heralds a new approach to innovative public-private alliances. The new forms, dynamically customised ‘on-the-fly’ for each Council, will leverage the existing business.gov.au GovForms service, and will make use of a shared delivery platform, custom developed for NSW Councils by leading business process and form development company, Avoka Technologies.

The initiative was managed by Hornery Plus, and we are continuing to lead the ongoing development of this innovative shared service.
